Dear Friends and Family,

We are pleased to tell you that the first Phil Everson Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to a graduating student of St. Lawrence Secondary School in Cornwall, Ont. As you may recall, this scholarship was initiated after Phil Everson, a former St. Lawrence student, died suddenly after completing the Ottawa Army Run in September of 2019. It was always Phil’s intention to give back to St. Lawrence S.S. in some way. Because of the generosity of many donors like yourself, Phil’s intention has become reality and the fund is able to generate a $1,500 scholarship annually.

The Everson and Evenchick families are very humbled by your generosity. We are pleased to be able to honour Phil and his many contributions to St. Lawrence S.S. and the Cornwall and area community by way of this annual scholarship. Thank you for being a part of a wonderful community of donors.

The first recipient of the Phil Everson Memorial Scholarship is Wyatt Genoway. Wyatt graduated as an Ontario Scholar with a French Immersion certificate and was valedictorian for his graduating class. He played on several sports teams and contributed to the Cornwall community by giving special gifts to children who spend Christmas in hospital. To quote Wyatt, “Nothing brought me more joy than to watch these kids smile when I handed them something so simple as a stuffed animal.”

Wyatt will be attending St. Lawrence College in Kingston where he will be taking Business Marketing with the eventual goal of becoming a Real Estate agent.

Once again, thank you for supporting the Phil Everson Memorial Fund. You have made a significant investment in our youth and have helped Wyatt pursue his post-secondary studies.

With gratitude,

Johneen, Tom & Rebecca Everson
